We were invited for a tour of the new Wealden Crematorium recently. Situated just south of Horam, the building work is mostly finished and landscaping is currently taking place, ahead of an anticipated opening in May.
At the heart of the building is a 120-seat chapel, which is light and spacious. The glass wall on the south side has views over a reflection pool to the flower court and the garden of remembrance.
Outside there is car parking for 150 vehicles and a separate antechamber, which will house a book of remembrance. There is also a special metal tree of remembrance, which families will be able to purchase leaves for in memory of loved ones.
The new Wealden Crematorium will offer hour-long slots to allow for unrushed services.
