On standby to provide vital support
Around 40 members of our Bereavement Group enjoyed a fascinating talk at Barnsgate Manor recently about the vital work of Kent, Surrey and Sussex Ambulance from Dave, one of the charity’s volunteers.
Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance provides a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service, responding to patients who have suffered trauma or serious medical emergencies. It operates 24 hours a day, ensuring the service can be there for the most critically ill and injured people in the region.
When necessary, its medical crews can provide highly specialist care at the scene; they are able to anaesthetise, perform surgery and give blood transfusions to patients. Following treatment, they can airlift patients directly to the hospital that can best care for them going forward.
The charity operates out of bases in Redhill and Marden – meaning that no matter where you are in Kent, Surrey or Sussex, you are never more than 20 minutes away from the life-saving care that only they can bring directly to your side.
Dave explained to the Bereavement Group that the charity is in the process of taking delivery of a new Air Ambulance, which will fly out of Redhill, while its other two helicopters will remain at the heliport in Marden. The charity’s Air Ambulances are used two or three times every day and also fly at night. So far this year, they have attended five incidents in the Crowborough vicinity.
Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance relies almost entirely on donations and fundraising and a collection during the morning raised £201.40. For more information about the charity’s work, click here: https://www.kssairambulance.org.uk/
